Temperatures are lowering and we are all pulling out our sweaters, scarves and hats. I love fall. But what I don’t love is letting the cold weather distract me from running. We stay indoors and eat, come January we all have a goal to lose weight.
I have one simple tip –stay active! Easier said than done, right? Wrong! We have been working on tans, camping, swimming, staying active; so why quit now?
My trick is to pick up a more aggressive version of the couch to 5k. I am assuming that since warmer days are still among us, most of us don’t spend 24/7 cooped up in the house.
Here is the schedule I used:

I promise you can get there. I did my first 5k, the Glow Run Tulsa a little more than a month ago and I have already signed up for 4 additional runs. I have lost weight and toned up. I feel great!
Some people have asked me what running shoes I recommend. I bought a pair of Brooks’ Cadence shoes. Best investment I have ever made. I have yet to get a shin-splint and the support is amazing. Besides the look and feel, they were also named best running shoe in Runner’s World Magazine, three years in a row.

If you miss a day don’t get discouraged. Just pick up where you left off.
I think when you train your body, making healthier eating habits comes naturally. What’s the point of working your bum off, to go eat a greasy burger?
Just try it, I can almost guarantee that you won’t regret it. I can suggest pre-workout, post-workout and protein shakes that will help feed your body and not make you sore. I may save that for a different blog.
Until then, put on those running shoes and your headphones and take it to the street (or treadmill).
